 The Dance with Katrina

These pictures were taken by a man in Magee, MS where the eye of the storm passed thru.
Magee is 150 miles North of Waveland, Mississippi where the Hurricane made land fall.

The dance with Katrina, part of her beauty as she left destruction on her exit. They are remarkably dramatic.

 Goodbye!

I left my job of 20 years Dec. 31, 2005!

I can pick and choose my battles. I can turn off a TV program if I feel my blood pressure going up.

I can screen my phone calls, and not answer the door bell.

It's just what my Doctor ordered, and I do feel better after 16 months of retirement...Blood pressure is great, and I no longer have to take my pain medication. All my blood work came back much improved, and I feel like walking now and eating right.

I miss my job that I had for 20 years. I miss the kids, and "I love yous" and "you are so pretty" and the hugs and kisses. Hubby tries really hard to take their place, and does a fine job of it. But I do miss the little rug rats!

It's funny how you think you are so indispensable, and no one can love the kids and care for the kids, and teach the kids like you do.

But after two aides they found a girl who is doing a great job in my place. She's young and has alot of energy, and does not have to crawl out the front doors when the day is over.

My withdrawals are about over, thanks to you guys!

I've been back once to take backpacks full of school supplies at the beginning of the school year. Two for each grade. Cried as I picked out the folders, and crayons and all the goodies some of the kids cannot afford.

I miss buttoning shirts that are buttoned wrong, and combing hair that has not seen a comb or brush since I did it the day before.

I still worry about fridays tho. School breakfast and school lunches are the only meals some of these kids get. Fridays mean no more good food until Monday morning at our breakfast. Summers, we have lunches in the park for them. But the weekends always made me sad, and still do.

I spent money that I did'nt have, and enjoyed watching children who did not have coats or socks or underwear receive them.

Each Easter many did not have baskets, so I made the whole kindergarten (82-85) Milk jug Easter Bunny Baskets. They were cute, and the kids loved them, and all had the same. I bought the grass, and the teachers liked them.

Each Valentine Day, I helped each kid (82-85) make their Valentine sack. I bought my glue gun, and saved all sorts of goodies during the year, and bought some little footballs and baseballs and soccer balls and ribbon and lace, and flowers and each child designed their own sack.

I miss the trips to the Zoo in Tyler, and Field Day, and the Thanksgiving Feasts. I miss Friday Film Day in my room. I would go rent a cool movie for them, and their teachers got together and planned for the next week.

I miss reading to them, so their names would be called over the loud speaker if they listened to X number of books. Some parents will not listen to their kids read, or read to them, you know...

Before each Christmas, we took the whole school to the show in town. PTA pays half, and our school pays the other half. I really miss this..

Some of the kids had never been, and they would get a coke and a tub of popcorn. It is amazing watching them. We have a 99 cent picture show. The owners wife is one of our first grade teachers, and we got a big discount.

Kids in kindergarten when I started work are now 27 years old. I pray I made a difference in the lives of some of those precious children.

Because of our plant closing, our enrollment went from 485 in l985 to 260 in 2005. The kids are more needy and alot live with grandparents, or other relatives. Parents have a hard time finding work in this area.

I can honestly say, I never met a kid I did'nt love. I pray for our teachers and our teacher assistants, and our public school system.

I pray for the babies who never see a smile or hear a kind word or who never know praise until they get to school.

Hot Spot for Tuesday, May 1, 2007

"Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." -Ps 127:1

Haifa - Home of the infamous Haifa Street, this central Sunni district has been the scene of heavy sectarian violence since the early days of the war. Dubbed “Purple Heart Boulevard” by American soldiers because of its many car bombs, the street and its surrounding area may be, aside from Sadr City, Baghdad’s most contested and violent neighborhood. *

Each day I receive a special Hot Spot for me to pray for! It just takes a minute. Prayer is for the people who live there, as well as the men and women who have been sent there from other countries, especially America...
