A new Christian website, dedicated to prayer for Iraq, has been launched to coincide with the recent surge in US military forces in Baghdad. Prayercentral.net founder Wayne Dillard launched the "Baghdad Prayer Patrol" to enlist Americans to pray for troops stationed in and around the Iraqi capital.

Timing the project to coincide with the recent troop surge in Baghdad, Dillard says: "It's not right to send more troops without sending more prayer. We are asking Christians to join us for just one minute a day to stand with our troops over the next six months."

"What if Baghdad were a city of peace? What if the impossible happened and it became a beacon of hope for the region? What if we prayed, and God answered, what could happen?" the website asks.

"Did you know that Baghdad was once called Madinat Al-Salam, city of peace? Maybe that's its God-given destiny, maybe if we agree with God, we can change history," the website says.

Answering the question, 'Why pray?' the site's organizers respond: "Because of the events that surround Baghdad, you will probably never have a better opportunity to change the course of world history than you do right now."

They add: "Forces of both good and evil are locked in battle for Baghdad. Just a few short months will determine the fate of that city, its 6 million inhabitants, and its on-going influence in that region and the world.

"The good people of Baghdad have stepped up to put their lives on the line as leaders for democracy and freedom. Soldiers from around the world are laying down their lives, and the Baghdad police are spilling their blood to see their countrymen live in peace."

But, according to the site, "this is not enough, and the tug of war for Baghdad will be lost if believers like you and me don't step up to our spiritual responsibility and join the battle. Others are doing all they can, are we doing what we can?

"If you are a Believer, then you understand that political, military, and humanitarian efforts are only part of the picture. Rees Howells, a prayer leader once said, 'History belongs to the intercessor' if that's true, then the future also belongs to the Intercessor.'"

The site's organizers issue a challenge. They ask: "How about it? Will you stand with us on the mountain of prayer as Moses did in the day of battle, (Ex 17:8) making your mark on history, and seeing God's will be done in Baghdad?"

A media release says those joining the website's prayer project receive a daily e-mail assignment specifying a geographic and spiritual need. Participants also receive a satellite map with close up views of Baghdad neighborhoods designated as hot spots for prayer.

Dillard, an ordained minister of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, emphasizes that the project is spiritual, not political, in nature. "We all want this conflict to be over," he said. "Through prayer we can make a difference. We can help our soldiers accomplish their mission so that they can come home."

The website also posts prayers submitted by participants for the troops in Iraq.

The Pearl Brewing Company also known as the Pearl Brewery (Pearl) was an American brewery, established in 1883 in San Antonio, Texas. In 1985, Pearl's parent company purchased the Pabst Brewing Company and assumed the Pabst name. In 1999, the Pabst Brewing Company began transferring its production to Miller Brewing, on a contract basis, and closing all of its breweries. Pearl beer is still in production at Miller's Ft. Worth, Texas facility, but the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio was closed in 2001. Since then, the former brewery was purchased by Silver Ventures, Inc., which has made the property the crown jewel in revitalization efforts of northern downtown San Antonio.



My Granddad lived with us until I was ten years old. Every time he opened a Pearl Beer he would let me have the foam on top. This was no big deal to me, as I thought it was a natural thing to do.

Not until I was quite old did I realize my Granddad was an alcoholic. He was never abusive or acted in any way like he was drunk. He held down a very pretigious job, and I adored him.

My Granddad was 84 when he passed away. Everyone said Beer killed him....

My X husband was an alcoholic, and not until I saw how he reacted to over drinking did I realize not everyone could be civil and act responsibly when drinking...

I warned my children many many times about alcohol, as they have on both sides of their families people who have abused it. They both became aware of the gene pool, and how it played a part in their lives in college from courses they were required to take....

And saving the best for last, as explained by Cliff Clavin, of Cheers.
One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm.
Here's how it went:
"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

During the Prohibition my Granddad made very good Beer. He raised five children alone with his proceeds!! He also taught fiddle and later got a Civil Service job.

I'm so Blessed!!!

Today my baby boy is 33. He lives in Brooklyn, works in Manhattan, rides the subway, and I worry about his safety all the time.......My son knows the Lord and is a cheerful, wonderful person.

My daughter is married to a wonderful man, has a 15 month old son, works as a fourth grade bilingual teacher, and runs herself crazy...My daughter knows the Lord and is a caring and loving person.

My husband has atriel fibrillation, angina and high blood pressure. He is a retired dentist, and loves golf and me.... My husband knows the Lord and is a kind gentle person.

My Mom is 96 years young, and has a mind better than I do. She cooks for the elderly, and lives alone......My Mom knows the Lord and is an unforgettable person......

My brother is a retired superintendent. He farms and loves to cook and raise cows and help his children. My brother knows the Lord and loves his wife and kids and is a helpful person.

My sister in law is a retired counselor. She is in remission. Three stem cells for multiple myeloma. She sews, births calves, makes her own catsup, and wants to live long enough to see her son and daughter graduatate from Vet School. My sister in law knows the Lord and is an angel of a person.

I'm so Blessed! No matter what befalls us in this life, we will be together someday in a better place rejoicing and enjoying the beauty of Heaven....
